I bought this book because the summary was to the point and in your face about hustling and grinding. But once I'd gotten into the whole book, it was really geared towards college kids and a younger generation. Ideas were real basic. I was kind of disappointed considering how it started out.

The term "visual dictionary" appealed to me because I work with an ASD population. I was not disappointed and have used these books and workbooks for teaching practical information that students may have missed in their everyday lives. I find it especially useful for middle and high schoolers. The graphics are excellent, detailed and sometimes small.

Great low-level supplement to the OPD

I'm an ESL teacher and this is an excellent resource for my low level students. Be sure to buy the actual Oxford Picture Dictionary that goes with it as this is just worksheets and communicative exercises that students need that book to complete. Together, they're great for helping students improve their vocabulary in a student-centered way ( a lot of pair work and communicative activities) without translating to their native language.

I have just started using this with my ESL student in conjunction with the Oxford Picture Dictionary. It uses repetition to help my student retain new vocabulary. Each page in the workbook correlates with the same page in the dictionary so it is easy for her to use. Workbook is colorful and interesting and also includes 4 CD's for listening practice.

Great for Starting Out in Higher Positions

If you're starting out learning third position, as I am, this is just your speed. It starts out very easy, then gets progressively more difficult. I'm still in the beginning of the book, so can't comment on the later sections, but I'm enjoying the pieces, switching back and forth between playing them in first and third positions to see how much easier it can be in the higher position.

Clear, succinct, detailed background for Histology

I purchased the Netter's flash cards 2 months ago and wish I had instead purchased the Lange Basic Histology ones the first time around! Now I have 2 stacks of histo flash cards, only one that I can actually use. Although the Netter's histology flash cards are elegantly designed the content on the back of the flash cards is poor and the information is arranged in a manner that is inaccessible, scattered, and incomplete. Netter's gave only a couple of important basics on the back of each flash card and fill the rest in with minute, irrelevant details without providing an adequate foundation. I spent a lot of money on them, but have not been able to use them at all to study. I had tried, but it never worked out.

Two weeks ago I learned about these Lange Basic Histology flash cards and found them to be almost exactly what I was looking for. The cards are concise and very high yield. Each card has diagrams and/or pictures of micrographs of light microscopy AND electron microscopy which I found very helpful. I found Lange to have more photos (so they capture the real thing) than Netter's, which has tons of illustrations. Moreover, the back of each slide gives an overview of all the basic, important concepts you need to know for that particular topic AND presents clinically relevant information. For me, these slides were designed exactly the way I wanted to design my own study sheets and flashcards: a representative micrograph of light and EM microscopy and/or diagrams on one slide, and all the foundational information (not just 2 concepts + trivial matters) PLUS clinical relevance on the other.

Critiques: a.) These cards have great content, but could be more chic. I personally would have really liked that, but I'm an artist so more critical of that than other people. Netter's is certainly flashier. b.) I wish there were more clinical information. They don't have less than Netter's does on each card, I just wish they had more.

Bottom Line: Lange flash cards summarize the fundamentals of histology I am needing to know for medical school and do so in a clear, compact version. The EM and light microscopy pictures on each are also great, and some have illustrations, too, which are also great. I am finding these flash cards very helpful.

Reviewer "CB" of the Junqueira Basic Histology Flash Cards, of which I am the author, indicates they contain only "maybe 20 pics out of the 500 cards." Actually there are 200 cards, each with one or more images of a different human tissue or cell (with key features indicated) and a concise written description of the relevant histological information. Doody's Book Reviews, an independent, professional reviewing organization that rates educational products for medical and pre-medical students, said of the Junqueira Basic Histology Flash Cards "This is one of the best flashcard products currently available for medical education" and gave the work a weighted score of 100 out of 100.

Lange Basic Histology Cards - Great on Kindle Fire

I am an Anatomy and Physiology student that struggles with histology. Physical flash cards work well. But, I really like he way these cards work on the Kindle Fire. While you are learning the slides, you can hold the page between the cell and the key. Once you learn them, you can challenge yourself. So far I have just tried this on the Kindle Fire Gen 2 the 7" version. It will probably work even better with my Asus Transformer.

Overall, this is a great way to have your flashcards with you all the time. I can just leave the Kindle on my desk and look over at it between tasks to get ready for my lab final. I have a few weeks to study. I'll try to remember to post an update after the exam.

This book is awesome. It was written by the guy that is currently teaching my class (Electromagnetic Fields I). He is a crazy old man, but he knows his stuff(Johnk)!! Anyone who is taking a class of this subject, use this book. He's pretty much the 'Father' of Fields. Awesome teacher, great book!

I use this book all the time !

I attended the University of Colorado, Boulder as a graduate student in EE in the mid-1980's . I took Dr. Johnk's classes in Electromagnetics, and was very inspired by him personally. He has some sort of 3-D visualization coprocessor in his brain, and the explanatory drawings he made in class reflected that anatomical curiosity, as do the drawings and explanations in this text book of his. In this book, he has pulled together all the important concepts of engineering electromagnetics. I own a bunch of other books on electromagnetics for use as references, but this one is the one I use consistently. My copy of this book now looks like it was dragged down the road behind a car, just from over-use. Soon I will have to buy a new copy.

Drew Barrymore, an enlightening experience

This book is absolutely amazing. Drew Barrymore takes readers through a very difficult time in her life. She describes her addictions with such force and honesty that you can't help but feel what she's going through. Throughout the book you feel her emotions as you read them, so that while she learns from her mistakes, you learn from them as well. I really appreciate that she never made excuses for her behavior at all throughout the book, she just showed what she did and how she learned from it. Drew shows such strength throughout the book and such wisdom, that at times it's hard to think that she was only about thirteen or fourteen while she was writting it. She makes a great contribution to society in writting this book, because she shows you the non-glamorous side of drugs, which makes you realize how horrible they actually are. This is a great book that I highly recommend.

Drew Barrymore is an inspiration. Period.

Literally one of the greatest books I've ever read. No, I'm not saying that because I'm a Drew Barrymore fan. I mean, if acting isn't what she wanted to do, she could've been an author! Written when she was still in rehab circa late 1988 and published in 1990, this book gives all of us an insight into her early years, and the hell she went through at such a young age. She tells us about her first taste of alcohol, cigarettes, cocaine, and marijuana. She also tells us about her first kiss, and her first makeout session, and how she was always fighting with her mother. She tells us about living at the rehab. She tells us about her visits with her father as well. She shares all of her stories and adventures, her mishaps and her first achievements. With this book, I've learned how truly strong this woman is, and how no matter what she went through, she didn't ever back down at achieving what she wanted. Drew Barrymore is a true idol for anyone, and this book proves that.

First, about the physical book, it arrived promptly, in "good condition" and as described, clean, without markings or highlighting, no missing pages or broken spine. This used book was available for penny's in addition to the shipping fee. Very satisfactory.
Now for the content: This was the most difficult book I have ever read. A compelling but bitter read. For those of us who love Drew, her story was nearly unbearable. No child, no matter who, should ever have to suffer the torment, pain, frustration, humiliation, bitterness, disappointment, abandonment and fear that this beautiful child and world class talent endured. At first, it appears Drew's single parent mother is the "good guy" but her own abusive relationship with with John Drew Barrymore (Drew's father), her codependency, shortcomings and poor management of her own and Drews life contributed to Drews life sinking into the abyss of drugs, alcohol and a pathologically low self esteem. Drew finally had to recognize her life style was no longer a choice she could keep but was approaching a critical life or death decision. Drew was loved by dozens, if not hundreds of personal friends, and Hollywood professionals. She could play in Steven Spielberg's backyard or visit Stephen King any time she wished. But the love, respect and adoration of wonderful people never could fill the bitter and empty void Drew suffered where family belonged. More desperately than life itself, Drew wanted a father that loved her, something she never even came close to. Instead she got abandonment, ridicule, rejection, abuse and humiliation. Drew finished this book at fourteen and the prologue says it all. She envisioned a happy ending with victory and promise, after the months of hard work and intense therapy during her hospitalization. In the end though, she is back in the hospital after a second relapse, scared, ashamed, discouraged. Years before becoming a women, you will read about probably the strongest adolescent you will ever follow. Drew, as she says, will live the rest of her life on the brink of disaster, from minute to minute and hour to hour. That does not mean she can not and has not learned to let go of her deepest pain and embrace the productive and loving life we all want for her. While it's true Drew had wonderful, skilled and insightful professionals in her hospitalization and recovery, the sickening feeling you get in your stomach is when you helplessly realize that these are tools, life changing tools, but none the less tools. No one can save Drew her from herself except Drew, and this fourteen year old superstar in the final analysis is frighteningly isolated and on her own. I'm sure Drew will never forget the turning point in her treatment that left her speechless: "Drew, have you reached your bottom yet?"
After a deep breath and reading this autobiography again, I plan to read "Happily Ever After" by Leah Furman, and follow Drew's adult career at least enough to find some resolution to the heartbreaking impact this childs story left me with.
Nuts and bolts: As you will see, this book is "with Todd Gold". Just grin and bear it. The story is complex and there is the mothers point of view, the findings in her own therapy, dozens of details and quotes from Drews therapists and other observations that do deserve to be included to establish timelines and round out the story. None the less, Drew (at thirteen and fourteen) is a beautiful writer. Her writing is constantly interrupted by by Todd Gold, whose input, in my opinion should be shorter and be in footnotes at the bottom of the page. Although his input is in narrow paragraphs and a different type style, his constant intrusion is annoying and often appears to be telling the reader what to think. The additional information is welcome, belaboring it is not, and Drew's words definitely do not need explaining.
If you choose to read this book, good luck, keep a Kleenex handy and above all, if you're a parent, realize the power and responsibility you've been given. If you loved "Carol", the loveable little pain-in-the butt thirteen year old in American Graffiti, her story (written decades later as an adult) is "High on Arrival" by Laura Mackenzie Phillips and is available. It is a difficult read also and offers remarkable parallels in places to Drew Barrymore but from another childhood star.
