Concise and informative

This is an excellent book, which is well-written and understandable.

I am currently using it as a required text in a graduate course. It assumes that the reader has had previous courses in physiology and biochemistry, yet the authors give a concise definition of terms when warranted. I am going to keep this book rather than sell it because I think I will need it in the future.

Really Nice Reference Book for Transferware

Books on transferware (blue and white) pottery are very hard to find. And it's even harder to find a good one, that has enough information to be useful.

This is a VERY nice reference book for transferware pottery. While not every pattern is pictured (an impossible feat considering how many different patterns there are), there are dozens and dozens of example pictures through out. Beautiful patterns - some of which I had never seen before. They also show numerous examples of the original painting or sketch or engraving next to the transferware pattern, which I found very interesting. Many makers/manufacturers marks and date stamps are covered also.

This book doesn't even attempt to assign monetary prices to the patterns, but as a reference book you can't beat it. Well worth the money!

Very informative, but the vast majority of the photos are black and white! Not ideal. I would not have purchased the book had this been made known.

About the Author
ROBERT D. BROWN is Associate Professor and Coordinator of Graduate Studies in the School of Landscape Architecture, University of Guelph, Canada, where he also received his MLA and PhD in micrometeorology. Dr. Brown maintains active teaching and research programs and is a frequent contributor to the professional literature.

TERRY J. GILLESPIE is Professor in the Department of Land Resource Science at the University of Guelph, where he also received his PhD in meteorology. Dr. Gillespie has received numerous teaching awards, including the prestigious John Bell Award, and was recognized as Canadian Professor of the Year.

Simple, straightforward site design reference

This book has a very simple to understand approach to teaching about site design. Although it is a textbook layout...it is a quick read, with lots of images and diagrams and great breakups of points within the chapters...just an absolutely enjoyable format with lots of interesting information. I would recommend this book for anyone who is even considering any kind of landscaping...whether it's on their own home, or on a large construction site.

Decent book trying to cater to multiple audiences

This book was an interesting read. However, I felt like the authors were torn between speaking to a scientific or a more general audience. I believe the book was written for a general audience but there were some algebraic equations in some chapters which I thought might lose some people. I personally was looking for a more scientific book on the subject and so was a little dissapointed by the water-down and sometimes repetative language.

It is the best-selling strategic-management textbook in Mexico, China, Peru, Chile, Japan, and number two in the United States. Approximately 90,000 students read Dr. David's textbook annually as well as thousands of businesspersons. The book has led the field of strategic management for more than a decade in providing an applications/practitioner approach to the discipline. A native of Whiteville, North Carolina, Fred R. David received a B.S. degree in Mathematics and an MBA from Wake Forest University before being employed as a bank manager with United Carolina Bank. He received a Ph.D. in Business Administration from the University of South Carolina where he majored in Management.Currently, the TranSouth Professor of Strategic Management at Francis Marion University (FMU) in Florence, South Carolina, Dr. David has also taught at Auburn University, Mississippi State University, East Carolina University, the University of South Carolina, and the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. He is the author of 150 referred publications, including 39 journal articles, 53 Proceedings publications, and 58 business policy cases. David has articles published in such journals as "Academy of Management Review," "Academy of Management Executive," "Journal of Applied Psychology," "Long Range Planning," and "Advanced Management Journal," He serves on the Editorial Review Board of the "Advanced Management Journal," Dr. David has received a Lifetime Honorary Professorship Award from the Universidad Ricardo Palma in Lima, Peru. He delivered the keynote speech at the twenty-first Annual Latin American Congress on Strategy hosted by the Centrum School of Business in Peru. Dr. David recently delivered an eight-hour Strategic Planning Workshop to the faculty at Pontificia Universidad Catolica Del in Lima, Peru, and an eight-hour Case Writing/Analyzing Workshop to the faculty at Utah Valley State College in Orem, Utah. He has received numerous awards, including FMU's Board of Trustees Research Scholar Award, and the university's Award for Excellence in Research given annually to the best faculty researcher on campus, and the Phil Carroll Advancement of Management Award, given annually by the Society for the Advancement of Management (SAM) to a management scholar for outstanding contributions in management research. David served for three years on the Southern Management Association'sBoard of Directors Through his Web site, www.checkmateplan.com, Dr. David actively assists businesses across the country and around the world in doing strategic planning. This book will challenge you to think outside the box and get your "creative juices" flowing!

The book have exercises that challenge you in new ways to use your sketchbook as a designer. I would always just sketch designs in my sketchbook and wouldn't think to use it for the many ideas listed in the book. I also would never completely fill my sketchbook. I would recommend this book to any aspiring fashion designer who is kind of new at using their sketchbook and don't know where to start in it. After reading this book you will get over the fear of messing up the clean white pages in your sketchbook. I do warn that if you expect for there to be material that teaches you how to sketch designs that this is not the book. I would recommend Fashion Sketchbook by Bina Abling for that matter. Other than that, this book is a great buy.

Love this book!~ It takes a fresh and inventive approach to using the sketchbook as a design tool.

Truly wish that this was used as a text for fashion design classes. Many of the current texts are stale and uninspiring. This book gets you thinking outside the mundane.

Note that another reviewer said this won't teach you to illustrate -- disagree a bit on that -- one example is the "inkblot" exercise -- easily applied to illustration. Moreover, the author is a fashion illustrator so his sketchbook ideas are are informed by that discipline.

Plan to do all of the exercises in this book to shake loose the cobwebs!

I love it. It has exercises and explanation. You won't regret. The most useful book that I have ever bought!!!!! It isn't book like bla-bla-bla...you must have a good Idea to create, it teaches you how make that idea first!!

NOT a "package", just an overpriced student edition

Don't buy this so-called homeschool "package." It is nothing more than an overpriced student edition. You get NOTHING else with it. Other sites may include more (at a similar price), but Amazon only sends the book. I'm returning the one I got and have ordered from somewhere else.

Makes you think!

This play makes you think....think about your own life. The action centers around a group of 'down and out'ers in a dive bar for career drunks, located in 1920s New York. The plot develops when Hickey, a long-time occasional visitor, returns, and tries to encourage these ne'er do wells to improve their lives.

A great play, with fantastic speeches and vivid imagery. The characters are colorful, and use a lot of language, and the subject matter of the play may offend more sensitive readers. This play is thought-provoking, and made me think about the direction of my own life, and the lies I tell myself about why I can't/won't do some things to make my life better...and where I may end up if I don't change my own direction....which seems to be the author's intent.

This play is definitely worth the read, with few weaknesses, if any, to list. Entertaining, thought-provoking, colorful, and serious. Occasionally funny, but very interesting.

Dark and thematic, very well done

Really enjoyed this story, it is unpredictable and speaks on human nature in an unusual/original way.
I love less than dashing characters and this story is chock full. It really gets to the dark parts of the human psyche. How we dilute ourselves, use each other and succumb to the worst part of ourselves more often than we all would like to admit. I'm in my late 30s now and could relate to the idea of just 'giving up' moreso than when I was younger. I probably would like this less if I read this as a teenager or in my early 20s. You need to have lived a bit and been truly disappointed in life before you can relate to the material fully.

One of the greatest plays ever written. As good as anything by Sam Beckett.

I'd seen the play decades ago, the version with Lee Marvin as Hickey and Fredric March as Harry Hope. Robert Ryan stole that show. Excellent version, almost as good as the one with Jason Robards. Laid out here in written format is very good as well.

There are all kinds of critics that branded this play as pessimistic..... Illusions, delusions, loss of courage, guilt and insanity and the rest of the human condition are covered pretty well by O'Neill. He had compassion for his characters in this play because he knew these types and he was one......

Conversation and dialogue by misfits and losers in a seedy bar in New York in 1912 may not appeal to people today but if you are the type of person looking for the truth in art...you'll find it here....
