Not my first (or second) choice.

This book has a lot of typos and in a programming textbook, that's not a good thing. Even on the website, their downloadable code is error prone. More attention should be paid by the editors of programming textbooks than was done here.

Worst Data Structures book I have ever seen

I used this book for a textbook in my data structure class. I have never seen worst data structure book than this. A lot of errors, lack of exercises, instructor materials simply wrong ( test bank contains too many wrong answers, etc.. ) This book ruined my class this semester. I had to refer students to Internet instead of the book to study the material. I will never use this book again, nor I will ever recommend it to my students and colleagues.

Great approach to the topic.

I am using this text book for a guided study class I am taking. It is very clear and accessible. I have found the examples clear, easy to follow and instructive. The case studies are fun as well as informative. I enjoy the approach the text book takes of walking your through fleshed out ADTs and then challenging you to manipulate them. At the end of each chapter I not only feel like I can code the ADTs but I also have a solid understanding of their applications.

Discovering Lost Money in an Old Coat Pocket

I suppose you could imagine the Craig Wallwork novel, The Sound of Loneliness, as an uncomfortable cab ride complete with potholes, gridlock, and one-way streets going the wrong way. The shock absorbers are shot all to hell and the driver is smoking a cheap cigar. But as the reader, you have to sit back, ignore the meter, and try not to anticipate the destination. A cushy ride from point A to point B is not on the mind of Mr. Wallwork. But you will certainly find the trip worthwhile.

In "The Sound of Loneliness," Craig Wallwork paints a dreary landscape where the protagonist, a would-be writer, struggles between ineptitude and delusion where he is never more than a bowl of soup away from being consumed by absolute destitution.

The main character, Daniel, is a not an endearing creation. He is an angry, conceited, arrogant, and sometimes violent young man. He has the soul of an artist, but lacks the talent.

Living hand-to-mouth, always down to nothing, feverish, reeling dizzy from hunger, Wallwork's narrator is part crank and part eccentric whose illusions of grandeur, and Holden Caulfield-like observations of the shortcomings of human nature seem to insure his failure in a society he loathes. He is the victim as well as the architect of his own misfortunes--impulsively driving himself to indulge in the most offensive and inappropriate public behavior.

Mr. Wallwork gets it right as he sets it down in dirty, realistic style, with prose both simple and rich. In concise, economically crafted sentences, he keeps the spotlight on the main character, Daniel, as the other characters in the book come and go acting, primarily, as foils for his disdain. Here, Wallwork truly explores human values through one confused young man's eyes. The deep hatred and bitterness that's the flip side of love is here in its most brutally tragic and truthful form. The author seems out to force readers to face these feelings in themselves, and sometimes it's so right on, it hurts.

The repulsive odors and grubby feel of various settings (Daniel's cheap apartment somewhere in Manchester, England, and Uncle Billy's dank, smelly dwelling) is damn near palpable. You're afraid that if you poke at the page the blood will run and you'll find yourself in an empty belly amidst gas bubbles and lumps of groaning entrails. Not many books bring you into such close physical contact with a character. Through the protagonist's nostrils you will inhale his own noxious body odors. After reading a few chapters, you'll probably find yourself craving some fresh air.

Wallwork manages to explore the psychological side of the main character as he records the whims and the most perverse quirks of his behavior. The indirect focus of this novel might be the one person who is not very often seen--the wielder of the hammer who has shaped the main character's personality. The reader might be left with the obvious question: "What is the sound of loneliness?" I think the answer might come in the final chapter of the book. I believe that it resides inside the scream that rises above the rows of white marble and black granite tombstones of an unkempt cemetery: "Just once, would you be a father!"

In a writing world filled to overflowing with Zombies, Vampires, Werewolves, Wizards, and a huge cast of other miscellaneous fantasy and horror creatures, reading a novel that comes from a "real place" is as fine as discovering lost money in an old coat pocket. Thank you Mr. Wallwork.

Compulsively intimate & Original

Superbly written tale!
Terrific Book!
Brilliantly Unique!

Daniel Crabtree is a magnificence main character. He is 'both' the antagonist and protagonist in his own life; which much more closely resembles real life.
The 'feelings', (anger, disappointment, frustration, hopelessness, hope, sadness, etc.), we experience through Daniel are universal --yet somehow Daniel's feels a little more 'extreme'.

I appreciate that the author never asks the reader to feel sorry for Daniel. In fact, you fall in love with *Danny*,(while at the same time want to smack him).

This is the first book I've read by this author. He gives a modern fresh voice and perspective to contemporary fiction. I love it!

People who enjoy J.D. Salinger might really enjoy this book. I think 'everyone' would enjoy it.

Its amusing --and entertaining --as well as powerful!

SIDE NOTE: Being an American ---I got a kick out of the way Craig Wallwork writes. I understand he lives in West Yorkshire, England. (its fun to read his 'SLANT' on words which just don't feel *American-style*).

Lines I smiled at were simple ones like this:
1)"I was *SAT* on the bench, eating a cheese and onion pasty, when she walked past."
2) "Nar fook off out of me sight".
3) "it later to paper".
4) "Take off your fooking shoes".

One of my personal favorite parts of this book was when Daniel was making up a story about a humble pie fitter for his Uncle Billy. (A Story of Mistaken Identity). Soooooo many charming moments on every page.

Pints and Poseurs at The Flemish Weaver

Daniel Crabtree reminds me of Ignatius P. Reilly. He's a self-professed writer who doesn't write, putting all his faith into the acceptance of his lone short story and its journey to non-publication, whilst deriding everything else in his path. Believing that solitude and suffering are the only way to create good art, he subjects himself to impoverished living on the dole, stringing his family along with predictions of his impending literary fame and its lifestyle accoutrements. The guy's quite an ass, though his descriptions of his world are bleakly hilarious and vile.

Wallwork's clever narration outshines his character's abilities, even as he's written in first person. That's my favorite thing about this book, that Crabtree is surrounded by colorful characters and events — if only the character could apply such skillful rendering to his own storytelling in the metadiegetic in-book writing. He does become more human and relatable over the course of the story as he allows himself to forge a couple of meaningful relationships that he knows are ultimately doomed. "Failure is the chisel that shapes a person," as the author says.

There isn't a ton of plot in the book, mostly relying on description, and the pacing races a bit in the third act that I would like to have seen expanded more, but overall I found this very enjoyable with a grim sense of humor and some damn fine writing, which I've come to expect from having read the author's short stories.

I believe WINTER'S CAMP to be my first exposure to Jodi Thomas's writing. The book description explains the book's set-up very well, so I won't detail what happens or what it's about. I found James to be one of those quietly heroic, deeply honorable men who despite his own difficult past and years spent as a captain in the war, he's gentle, kind, patient, and the perfect match for Millie (the blue-eyed captive).

Out of necessity to the story, very little dialogue happens for the first third of the book or so. It jarred me to have so much introspection from both Millie and James, but given they were alone and she wasn't willing to speak much, the book unfolded the way it needed to. Still, once plenty of characters were on stage, not enough dialogue. I'm surprised the kindly widow (trying not to give too much away here) could help Millie blossom when James hadn't been able to. It was so incredibly sweet to see Millie's complete trust in James. As the book description discloses, it's that bone-deep trust in him that ends up being her greatest challenge. I'm still bugged that James was surprised and caught off guard to find (how to phrase this to not give away too much? I do hate spoilers) the big plot development near the end. Really? He's a man of the world, of experience. It just didn't ring true that he never once considered those particular consequences.

Oh well. He's honorable and kind, and with that, he won my heart.

Promising Start to new series.

Winter's Camp is a Western set in Texas at a time when land was just beginning to be divided up for ranches and towns for the white people. This book is a prequel and kicks off a new series by Jodi Thomas - the Ransom Canyon series.

It's a short and gentle story, giving the background to the beginnings of the new town. James is a kind but resolute man. When he spots Millie being mistreated as a slave he buys her for 'nothing', because she is regarded as nothing.

Millie is at first reticent and unsure. However as James' kindness continues she begins to open up. So much so that by the time he is ready to start his new holdings she is ready to find herself before she gives herself to anyone.

When James seeks information about her family he finds out that one of them is still possibly alive. James tracks the family member because he wants Millie to be happy. But will doing this be a mistake - one he comes to regret?

I always enjoy a western, a left over from reading my Dad's westerns as a child when I couldn't find anything else. Winter's Camp promises an interesting new series and I look forward to reading Ransom Canyon very soon.

A Ransom Canyon Historical Romance, Book 0.5

This novella is the prequel to Jodi Thomas's 'Ransom Canyon' series. Though its a quick read, I'm not sure if the 50 pages its purported to be is correct. It definitely seemed longer to me, but maybe that's just because there's a lot that goes on. I've read every historical romance this author has written, so when I saw this book I had to have it and lucky for me it was free. It's a beautiful love story about James Kirkland, a cowboy who trades a broken pocket-watch for a young captive. Millie was taken at just twelve-years-old and has spent six years being a slave and worse. This is their journey as we're given a glimpse into the past and how the Kirkland's began...

This was an emotional and heartfelt story. I adored James who simply wanted to help a lost and broken young woman. He had no ulterior motives and was a good and honest man. Millie dang near broke my heart on more than one occasion. Despite the hell she's been through, her innocence and sweetness continued to shine through. Sweet and Fresh

Amazing awesome book. The projects are stylishly cute without being trite. Gretel is a true artist an amazing eye for line and detail and the simplest of the projects are some of the most stunning visually. The projects are well illustrated and the process fully documented. The photos are lovely and beautifully styled. I would suggest this as an excellent introduction to needle felting for any beginner and as a refreshing expansion for the more experienced crafter. I purchased this book to use when crafting with my niece and am looking forward to many delightful shared lessons.

Cool stylized animals

Interesting, well described felt animals. Most could be made by children if they are old enough not to punch a hole through their fingers. It isn't just an age. Some adults would b better off leaving felting needles with their bards alone. In theory, one felts on a pad to prevent this. However, let's get real. At some time (if not constantly) you will want a different angle or to see better and their the needle will be, directly through the roving toward a finder.
I warned by eleven year old granddaughter. She holds away from the pad and has never stuck herself. She is very well coordinated. While the patterns are fairly simple, the style is interesting not not the same old same old. I really like this book and I have several.

Just skimmed through the pages, and I believe I shall love it! Looks harder than my other book because it requires sewing, but shall try my best!

For those interested in social cognition

This is an excellent book, written in an engaging and accessible style, which makes it informative and agreeable to read. It constitutes a valuable resource for college students as well as graduate students who are interested in emotion processing from the perspectives of cognitive and social psychology. Both perspectives are well integrated. It is for me one of the best introductory textbook in a rapidly growing field of research.
This book is also a fine example of how the study of emotion has changed and how fascinating this domain is to those interested in social cognition.

A great book. I am studying as a counsellor and this book has been very beneficial as a reference for my essays. This book has a great structure which allows for a foundation to move onto more depth such as Daniel Goleman's emotional intelligence.
